Solving the Core of the Problem

  • Description:During this workout, we will become familiar with system problems. A system is a collection of components linked together and functioning together for a common purpose. When one of the components stops working, a problem arises!
    System problems are common: A vehicle that stops working, a team whose performance is inadequate or unsatisfactory, a product that does not perform as planned… and more! When the system is not functioning, we need to respond quickly and identify the problem’s core.
  • Leading Game:Move-It.
    Move-It is a puzzle game. In the game, the player is presented with challenges of increasing difficulty and must identify the set of moves that will lead to a solution. Despite the simple rules of the game, the levels of the game are challenging and stimulate thinking about how to solve problems. The game is characterized by having one central factor that we must find to reach a solution. We call this factor the Core of the Problem.

Following Move Order

  • Description:In this workout, we’ll learn to recognize situations where calculating the order of actions is necessary. We’ll also practice the skill of determining the correct sequence of actions using a straightforward and effective thinking model, which consists of three steps:
    Step 1 – Identifying a scenario that requires a sequence of actions.
    Step 2 – Analyzing dependencies between different operations and forming a logical chain.
    Step 3 – Planning and drafting an action plan.
  • Leading Game:Maxit is a two-player strategy game played on an 8×8 square board. The board is randomly filled with numbers and a star is placed on one of the squares. One player plays in the rows and the other in the columns. The objective of the game is to collect more points than the opponent by selecting squares that maximize the sum of their numbers. However, players must also anticipate and adapt to a constantly changing board, adding a layer of complexity to the game that requires planning and strategy.

Understanding constraints is vital because they define the parameters within which decisions need to be made and problems resolved. The workout also presents a systematic method for analysing and understanding constraints.
  • Leading Game:Treasure island
    Treasure island is a puzzle game requiring good planning. The objective of the game is to lead the pirate to the treasure in a given number of moves. Since the pirate walks to the treasure in the shortest possible way, the player needs to extend its route using the given barriers. In each game level, the board structure changes, as do the given barriers and the required number of moves to the treasure; hence, the difficulty level of the challenges can also be widely changed.
